J. M. Davis reopening ahead of schedule

CLAREMORE —

Twelve days ahead of schedule, the J.M. Davis Boulevard project is set to reopen on Aug. 9.
The 100-day project will conclude before the original deadline. allowing  Contech Inc., the project contractor, to collect an incentive for early completion, according to Daryl Golbek, Claremore Director of Public Infrastructure.
The first day to collect the $2,500 per day incentive is Aug. 11, pending project completion and with the maximum amount of $75,000, he added.
City employees met with the contractor Tuesday and finalized the project completion date.
The project has impacted several area businesses, prompting pleas with the Claremore City Council and citizens to help improve revenue lost due to construction.
Several business owners located along the construction route, including the Rusted Rabbit, Cotton Eyed Jones, The Bottle Shack and Make it Special, have been reporting a significant decline in weekly sales.
City officials worked with the business owners to improve signage and encourage public participation in the effort improve business.
Business owners say intersection improvements to Archer Street, J.M. Davis Boulevard and Lynn Riggs is improving traffic flow, but the true impact of the project will not be known until it is completed.
Contractors continue milling the roadways, replacing storm structures and overlaying asphalt and road closures will continue intermittently during the final phase, according to city officials.
Officials report construction crews will close most of J.M. Davis this week as they begin the overlay of asphalt.
The contractor will do everything possible to allow traffic to local merchants when permitted, according to city officials.
