RSU professor killed crossing highway

CLAREMORE —

An associate professor at Rogers State University, was killed in an automobile-pedestrian collision Tuesday evening.
Dr. David Tait, 62, was struck by a car while attempting to cross Oklahoma Highway 18 around 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. 
The vehicle was heading north on OK-18 at County Road 860, approximately three miles north of Chandler, according to information provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The driver, 27-year-old Christopher Wilkinson of Agra, was not injured in the accident. Wilkinson was wearing his seatbelt.
“I regret to inform you that the university has received notice that Dr.  David Tait, associate professor of History and Political Science, was killed during an automobile-pedestrian accident yesterday,” Dr, Larry Rice, RSU president, wrote in an release.
“Dr. Tait was a longtime member of the RSU faculty who first began teaching on College Hill in 1996. He was a valued member of the School of Liberal Arts, and he was a mentor and passionate advocate for students. In addition to his teaching, he served as a subdeacon at St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Oklahoma City since 2005.”
Funeral services are pending.  
“Our hearts go out to his wife, Dr. Laura Hubbs-Tait, and their son Aaron and daughter Aidan, as well as those who knew him as a professor, colleague and friend,” Rice said.
