Hillcrest Healthcare System has confirmed it is currently in the process of laying off less than 1 percent of its estimated 5,000 employees, including “less than five” employees at Hillcrest Hospital Claremore.
The layoffs are “in response to “significant cuts to Medicare,” and the Affordable Care Act, a hospital spokespeson said.
According to Hillcrest Public Relations Manager Angela Peterson, the layoffs, which could affect between 50 and 52 persons, will be primarily in administrative positions within the health-care system, and direct patient care will not be affected.
In September 2011, Hillcrest purchased Southcrest and Claremore Regional Hospital, and renamed it Hillcrest Hospital Claremore.
“None of the (Hillcrest) facilities was any more affected than another in terms of the number of layoffs,” she said, “although some (facilities) do have smaller staffs than others.”
Several of those affected by the layoffs were informed earlier this week, Peterson said.
The personnel cuts wil “have no affect on patient care,” according to Peterson.
In addition to Hillcrest Hospital Claremore, Hillcrest Healthcare System also includes Hillcrest Medical Center, Hillcrest Hospital South, Oklahoma Heart Institute and Utica Park Clinic, all in Tulsa; Hillcrest Hospital Cushing; Hillcrest Hospital Henryetta; Hillcrest Hospital Claremore and Bailey Medical Center in Owasso.
