CLAREMORE —

With the onset of October, Claremore residents can expect a variety of familiar sights, sounds and smells: Leaves changing colors, weather cooling, the proliferation of pumpkins and the smell and taste of cinnamon rolls.
Cinnamon rolls?
Safenet Services is currently hosting its annual cinnamon roll fundraiser, entitled “Good Morning Roll Call: Stand Up Against Domestic Violence.”
“October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” said Susan Wolfenbarger, Safenet Services, Inc., “and during this month, we always host our ‘Good Morning Roll Call’ awareness project/fundraiser, asking people to ‘answer the call’ and stand up against domestic violence by purchasing cinnamon rolls, with proceeds going to benefit Safenet.”
Wolfenbarger said the project has been a “huge success” in previous years, and she’s hopeful that this year will be no exception.
“Each dozen cinnamon rolls ordered comes with 12 individual statistics or facts regarding domestic violence,” she said. “It’s our hope is that this (information) will start a conversation in people’s homes or businesses, helping all of us to ‘answer the call’ and stand up against domestic violence, making a difference.”
According to data found on the Oklahoma Department of Human Services website, Oklahoma is ranked 17th in the nation for number of females murdered by men in single victim/single offender incidents.
Safenet Services helps families in both Rogers and Mayes counties cope, find safe haven, face the challenges, bolster their strengths, learn new skills, achieve their goals, heal, thrive, and break the cycle of violence in their lives to build a secure, stable life for themselves and their children.
With the aid of friends and donors, Safenet’s support network can help coordinate shelter, counseling, victim advocacy, legal help, parenting education, protective orders, housing, employment, and more.
Since 1991, Safenet Services has provided shelter and safety for more than 2500 abused women and their children, and fundraisers such as “Good Morning Roll Call” cinnamon roll sales help fund the safety, shelter, counseling, and more of victims of domestic violence.
“Also, Christmas and Thanksgiving are just around the corner — these (cinnamon rolls) would be a great addition to the freezer for your holiday company,” Wolfenbarger added.
Safenet is accepting cinnamon roll orders — $18 per dozen or $9 per half-dozen — until noon on Oct. 7.
Orders under one dozen may be picked up between 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Oct. 8. Delivery is available for larger orders.
