CLAREMORE —

Toys for Tots volunteers distributed more than 10,000 toys to Rogers and Mayes County families over the weekend at Claremore VFW Post 2976.
“Last year, we distributed 10,500 toys to 1,700 children from 750 families in northeast Oklahoma,” said Director Dale Marsh. “We had the most toys we’ve ever had last year and I believe this year, there’s even more.”
Each child received four toys, a game and one book or craft.
Marsh said storage rooms were packed full with toys that were available if distributors were running low.
As a member of the Marine Corps League, Marsh was named coordinator for Rogers and Mayes counties Toys for Tots four years ago and has worked with the campaign for a total of six years.
Volunteers included members of the Brotherhood Aiming Toward Education (ABATE) and Claremore Navy JROTC students.
Marsh said leftover toys from the weekend-long distribution will be delivered to area childrens organizations.
