Fireworks cause grass fires

CLAREMORE — The July 4th holiday has ended, but remaining fireworks are still “popping.”

With the dry weather climate and this week’s highs averaging 100 degrees, the Claremore Fire Department stood ready to respond to any firework related incidents.

“After looking through our records back to July 1, it appears that we had five to six small grass fires possibly related to fireworks.  I did not find any responses to firework-related injuries,” said Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Sean Douglas.

Fire Marshal Jason Crandall worked the evenings of July 3-4 to handle firework-related calls, most of which were responded with warnings, said Douglas.

One ticket was written for not properly running a fireworks stand safely, resulting in a $230 fine and the same fine would apply to other firework-related violations.
