Foyil students place in annual Battle of the Brains

CLAREMORE — More than 30 Foyil elementary and junior high students placed in the annual Battle of the Brains competition on March 26 at Inola High School.

The third through eighth grade competition included categories in math, social studies, science and language arts. More than 17 schools participated, and each school was allowed to enter two students per subject, per grade and each student completed two multiple-choice tests.

Medals and ribbons were given to the top six places. This is the fifth year Foyil students have competed in the event.

The following Foyil students placed in the top six:

Aiden Bland and Clay McElrath place third in third grade science, Jaylyn Robinson placed fifth in third grade science, Roman Couch, Ryan Barbee and Shelby Scott placed fourth in third grade science.

Dakota Culp, Darisa Her, Elijah Lovelace and Kimberly Aschoff placed fourth in fourth grade math and second place in fourth grade language arts. Kyle Sutherland placed fifth in fourth grade social studies.

Alexis Wilkerson, Kalvin Grumbein, Karissa Rutherford, Kassidy Harper, Nolan Fletcher and Peyton McDaniel placed in their respected subjects for fifth grade.

AJ Ohler and Owen Bottorff placed fifth in sixth grade science, Samantha Barnes and Stoney Morrison and Zoie Otis placed second in sixth grade social studies.

Kobe Grumbein and Makaela Leach placed sixth in seventh grade math and sixth place in seventh grade language arts. Savanna Simmons, Hunter Bolton and Avery Bland placed second in seventh grade science.

Danielle Culp placed third in eighth grade language arts, Colby Sutherland placed sixth in eighth grade math and second place in eighth grade language arts and Morgan Valliere placed sixth in eighth grade math. Cameron Jones, Dessa Pinkston and Mason Webb placed fifth in eighth grade science.
