Safenet’s annual walk-a-thon Saturday, teams can still join

Rogers County residents have the opportunity to join with others across the nation to bring awareness to domestic violence and sexual abuse during Saturday’s “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event.
Sponsored by Safenet Services, the fourth annual walk commemorates National Crime Victims Rights Week and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The 11 a.m. walk will begin and end at Gazebo Park. Pre-registration starts at 10 a.m.
Teams can still sign-up to raise funds and participate in the walk. Teams can be any number of people and include church groups, businesses, scout troops or families.
Since it’s a walk-a-thon, team members are encouraged to collect sponsorships in any amount.
New this year will be some activities following the walk, including a Zumba class, vintage car display and a bounce house for kids. Hot dogs will be available for a donation for lunch in the park.
“Participants are encouraged to wear red shoes. They can decorate their shoes with red, or buy a pair at our Second Impressions Resale Shop and spray paint them red,” Wolfenbarger said.
If you don’t have red shoes, red ribbons will be available to pin to your shoes.
This year’s event will again include “Paws for a Cause,” in which dogs can participate in the walk — and even get their own sponsors. Funds raised from Paws for a Cause will be used for on-site kennels and care for pets that women bring with them to the domestic abuse shelter.
Aye Chihuahua will offer nail trimming for dogs and have merchandise for sale following the walk.
Walk registration is $15 for adult participants, $10 for college students, and free for those high school age or younger. Paws for a Cause registration is $10 per dog. Registration packets are available at Safenet, Pixley Lumber and The District on Main. For more information, call Wolfenbarger at (918) 341-1424 or email email@example.com.
