The Claremore Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #112 has announced it is endorsing Matt Ballard as candidate for District 12 District Attorney.
“This endorsement demonstrates that we believe Matt Ballard possesses the broad range of prosecutorial experience necessary to be successful in the job,” said President Milburn Litterell. “His trial skills, leadership abilities, and professionalism will make him an essential member of the law enforcement team as we work to make our community a safe place for individuals, families, and businesses to thrive.”
Ballard, former judge Erin Oquin and local attorney Robert Post are seeking the office of district attorney along side incumbent, Janice Steidley.
“I truly appreciate the faith placed in me by the law enforcement community,” Ballard said.
In 2010 the FOP endorsed Steidley. However, issues later arose with the DA, prompting the lodge to pass a vote of “no confidence” in 2013.
“Repairing the relationship between the DA’s office and law enforcement is one of my top priorities,” Ballard said.
“It is our belief that Matt Ballard best represents the needs of the public safety community in the district. We believe that the outcome of this election weighs heavily on our ability to aggressively fight crime and promote a safe community and we support him as the most qualified candidate for the office,” Litterall said. “With the endorsement by the Claremore Fraternal Order of Police, voters can be assured that his qualifications and experience have been vetted by law enforcement and can cast their vote confidently for him when selecting a candidate for District Attorney.”
