PAL participants, mentors honored

CLAREMORE —

Five graduating seniors from Claremore, Oologah-Talala, and Sequoyah schools who have been participants in the Volunteers for Youth PAL Program were honored with their mentors recently at a picnic at Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch in Oologah.
Each PAL Mentor shared memories about their time together which ranged from three to 11 years.
“Today was truly special for the honorees and for the PAL Program staff,” said PAL Project Director, Cindy Vanaman. “We’ve taken pride in the fact that these students remained in long-term relationships with their mentors and at least part of their success can be attributed to the match.”
Four of the mentees honored today asked about volunteering as a mentor themselves. The fifth will leave for Army basic training at Ft. Benning, Ga. on Aug. 11.
