CLAREMORE — More than 540 children registered for the City of Claremore’s annual Kids Fishing Derby Thursday at Claremore Lake Park. Age group divisions included 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12 years of age. The first 400 children received a free rod and reel.

Participants fished from 7 a.m. until weigh-in just before 10 a.m. Winners were announced at 10:30 a.m. followed by bike giveaways for each age division and a raffle.  Largest fish overall — Ethan Stockwell, 26 1/2”; smallest fish overall — Caleb Pickerel and Christian Loose, 3”.

Rogers County Judge Erin O’ Quinn donated three $20 Wal-Mart gift cards and Chili’s and Charlie’s Chicken Restaurants donated the prize bags.

Claremore Lake Rangers helped coordinate the event along with community volunteers who measured the fish and tallied the winners. Mayor Mickey Perry announced the winners at the end of the derby.

Lake Ranger Dave Danieland said without the local sponsors involvement and donations, these prizes and the derby would not take place.

Donations were made by more than 45 local businesses and individuals for the bikes, rods and reels and trophies.
