Republican Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner Patrice Douglas says she’s running for the open U.S. House seat being vacated by two-term Rep. James Lankford.
Douglas says she’s “thrilled with the opportunity” to run for the seat representing Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District. The 51-year-old said she wants to “take a business sense to Washington.”
An attorney and banker, Douglas was elected mayor of Edmond in 2009. Gov. Mary Fallin appointed Douglas to fill a vacancy on the state’s three-member Corporation Commission in 2011.
Former state Rep. Shane Jett is also running for the Republican nomination for the seat. Retired University of Central Oklahoma professor Tom Guild is running on the Democratic side.
Lankford announced Monday that he’s running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Coburn.
