OOLOGAH — Authorities have identified the man who drowned Friday on Oologah Lake as Paul Anthony Hebzynski from Minneapolis, Minn.
Hebzynski, 46, was attempting to catch catfish with his barehands when he failed to surface.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers were called to the Talala Creek boat ramp on Oologah Lake where the drowning victim and two friends had been noodling with underwater gear.
OHP reported that Hebzynski was in 10-to-12 feet of water using a scuba device with a hose and regulator. He may have panicked and taken the device off while trying to surface. Hebzynski was taken to St. John Medical Center in Owasso.
The Associated Press reported that a man died in 2006 when he drowned while noodling in a creek east of Edmond.
