A simple start to the new fiscal year

CLAREMORE —

The Rogers County Commissioners met Monday for the first meeting of the new fiscal year.
Focused on “housekeeping”-type items, the agenda was limited following the holiday break. The meeting was one of the shortest to date, lasting only 30 minutes.  
The commissioners approved the appointment of Lynn Deventer and Dan Johnston to the Rogers County Planning Commission board. They will each serve a four-year term.
In other business, Northwest Fire Chief David Puckett provided an update on the status of the E911 Trust Authority.
Trustees met last Thursday to discuss the need for mutual aid between law enforcement, emergency medical services and local fire departments, Puckett said.
They discussed hiring additional dispatchers to handle the workload as more agencies join the center. The trustees also considered ways to boost the radio signal from the center, he said.
Funding the new employees could be an issue due to a lack of funding from outside agencies. The current proposed budget includes the new hires, but is $20,000 short of meeting the cost.
Another primary item for consideration is the purchase of a new CAD system. It will help not only the center, but also each agency that joins the facility, Puckett said.
“It is a system that will take a workload off the dispatcher,” Puckett said.
Once Puckett concluded the update, the commissioners took no action because the proposed changes were not listed on the agenda.
The board approved Phoenix Coal Company’s request to release $269,880 in funding. State law requires the mining company get the commissioners’ approval, according to Planning and Zoning Director Larry Curtis.
The company is reclaiming land in Rogers County District 1, Curtis said. In the past few years several mining companies have performed similar projects in the area.
“Phoenix has been a leader in these projects,” Curtis said.
