CPS to use remaining bond money on security renovation

Claremore Board of Education members approved a measure to utilize remaining bond funds during Friday’s special meeting.
The money, left over from a school bond issue, will be used in security renovation for Claremont, Roosa and Westside; resurfacing the Andy Payne track and renovation of the Claremore High School softball concession stand.
“If you look at the total revenue we have available, with the total proceeds and interest, we have $1,005,106 available,” said Claremore Superintendent Mike McClaren. “We have confirmed that with RCB Bank, who handles the proceeds. We still estimate about $300,000 in fees for paying the trust through the Industrial Authority and their annual audits.”
The district is looking at approximately $600,000 to be used for renovation projects, he said.
Issued in 2007, the bond was used for construction of Catalayah Elementary, the new CHS gymnasium, Lantow Field and other renovations.
Subtotal for the upcoming renovation projects is $497,328, according to a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) summary prepared by Key Construction of Claremore.
“Security barriers that we will be putting up at Roosa, Claremont and Westside will cost about $40,000,” said McClaren. “The barriers consist of magnetized, glass panel doors and will be placed at the entrances to the school which will be locked for the majority of the school day. It basically forces the traffic to come into the front office before any other part of the building.”
He said this will allow the schools to be more secure and help to control the flow of traffic into the building.
The goal is to get the security barriers in place by the time school begins on Aug. 15.
Due to cracks and temporary repairs on Claremore High School’s Andy Payne track, McClaren said the track will need to be resurfaced. Costs for the resurfacing total nearly $314,000.
“The top layer of the track will be taken off, and then a new track will be repoured with an eight-year warranty in case of material failure,” he said.
“It will be the same installation outfit that was originally put in place.”
The GMP budget will allow for metal roofing and siding installation at the CHS softball field. Installation costs are roughly $24,000, said McClaren.
“We desperately need (the installation). This will also include decking between the press box and the concession facility.”
The concession stand renovation will be completed by Aug. 1 in time for start of softball season.
McClaren said the completion of the track will be delayed until sometime in the fall.
