The Justus-Tiawah School Board considered and approved a budget and timeline Thursday evening for the school’s new gymnasium, to be built east of the north campus parking lot near the school’s WPA building.
Brewer Construction President Chad Brewer presented the information, which included bidding dates and start of construction, said J-T Superintendent David Garroutte.
He said Brewer Construction will be supervising the project.
Board approval for the lowest contracting bid will take place July 16 with a bid opening on Aug. 6. Board members plan to approve bids on Aug. 12 and construction is set to begin Aug. 26, said Garroutte.
Voters approved a $4.15 million bond for the gymnasium’s construction last August, and the school board has since purchased the six acres in highway frontage property.
Garroutte said the school only needed one acre; however, the negotiation called for all six acres of the adjoined land.
The 23,000-square foot building includes coaches’ office, a locker room, weight room, concession area and stationary and retractible bleachers.
“We are very excited about the process,” said Garroutte. “This gym is something our district will be proud of for years to come.”
