Fire crews worked Thursday afternoon to extinguish a grass fire west of Claremore, as high winds and dry conditions quickly spread the blaze.
Rogers County is currently under a burn ban and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Tiawah Fire Department crews were called to the fire at approximately 1 p.m. and the Claremore Fire Department was dispatched as mutual aid. The fire burned three acres before crews were able to get it under control.
Buck Murray, owner of the land was not at home at the time of the fire, but neighbors report the smoke became too thick to see through. The fire started to jump the roadway along Crestview Drive. However firefighers were able to get it under control before any property was damaged. There were several homes in close proximity to the blaze.
