Westside Elementary students from Mrs. Morgan Cernuto’s fifth-grade class earned a “fine dining” experience Monday. For the next nine weeks, select classes from each grade level (K-5) will have the opportunity to enjoy a three-course meal prepared by Westside Elementary and Sodexo’s Child Nutrition staff.
“Classes are chosen based on their behavior in the cafeteria during lunchtime,” said Prinicipal Traci Thomas. “The program has been very beneficial in creating a well-behaved eating environment.”
Monday’s course lunch included tomato basil soup, a kaleidoscope salad, penne pasta alfredo, breadstick, chocolate brownie and students’ choice of either white or chocolate milk.
Chris Drover, visiting executive chef from Sodexo, as well as Pamela Watson, Sodexo general manager for Claremore Schools, prepared each course before serving the children. Drover spoke with the class while reminding students of proper table etiquette.
“I’m very proud of my students,” said teacher Cernuto. “They have learned a lot about fine dining, and I believe their well-behaved mannerisms transition into the classroom.”
