Construction creeps to a close

Road construction on J.M. Davis Boulevard continues to delay the opening of the repairs near Archer Street.
The intersection was expected to open prior to the Fourth of July holiday, according to Claremore Public Works Director Daryl Golbek.
Due to some unforeseen cracking in the concrete, inspectors made the contractors, Contech Inc., remove a few areas and replace them, Golbek said.
Now, contractors plan on opening the intersection by the end of this week, he said.
The area near QuikTrip, Make it Special, The Bottle Shack and The Rusted Rabbit is still creating a slow down in traffic, according to business owners.
However, traffic to Cotton Eyed Joe’s is expected to improve once the intersection is reopened, according to officials.
Several small businesses located on J.M. Davis Boulevard have been asking for help after road construction has critically impaired sales.
Claremore City Manager Jim Thomas recently made an appeal to the public to lend a helping hand to the business, while the repairs take place.
“This is not Wall Street. This is Main Street and we have to support our local businesses. They are the backbone of what makes Claremore, Claremore,” said Thomas.
The project that was projected to take 100 days and be substantially completed between Aug. 11 and Aug. 21.
With approximately five weeks remaining to the deadline, crews will continue work on the sewer line to the north of the Archer Street intersection.
The contract provides for a maximum of 145 days for construction.
