OKLAHOMA CITY —

A sewer line collapsed sending one county construction contractor to the hospital today.

The accident occurred before noon in the parking lot of the new Rogers County Courthouse.

The Champion Concrete Services Inc. employee was transported by Tulsa Life Flight to St. Francis Hospital.

The worker who was reported to have had more than 25 years in the concrete business was cutting an old sewer line approximately three feet below the surface.

As he cut, the concrete box broke in what the foreman described as a “freak” accident. When it broke the man fell and his leg was crushed by the concrete structure.

The Claremore Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene stabilizing the man until paramedics could arrive.

At this time, the man’s name has not been released.

Rogers County Commissioner Mike Helm was on the scene shortly after the accident but said he could not release any information at this time.

The parking lot has been under construction for months and crews were beginning the final stages including the installation of several drainage systems.
