McComb approved as new Ward 1 councilor

Claremore City Council members unanimously voted to approve a councilor for the vacant Ward I seat at the city council’s regular meeting Monday evening.
Thirteen-year Claremore resident and U. S. Army veteran David McComb was asked to address the council, introduce himself and discuss why he believed he was the best candidate for the job.
McComb will take the seat of former council member Brandon Smith who resigned the seat, effective Aug. 1.
“My family and I enjoy everything Claremore has to offer,” said McComb. “We like the sports facilities, walking trails and the lake. There’s so much to do here and I’ve always wanted to give back.”
McComb said he was honored just to be considered as an applicant and will listen to what everybody has to say, and try to turn it into something positive if it’s not.
“I’m humbled to be here and look forward to doing a good job. I’ve always been interested in the job of city council members,” he said. “I was asked about it and said ‘I would love to do this.’”
The biggest challenge Claremore will have to overcome is how to remain a “close-knit” community while expanding at the same time, said McComb. During the interview, McComb spoke highly about the Claremore Police Department and Claremore Fire Department, saying both departments have an “outstanding” response time.
“I think we should always strive to be better, but myself and others included, can’t say enough about the protection these departments offer Claremore,” he said.
McComb was asked if he had an interest in running in an election to remain in his seat at the end of his term.
“Absolutely. I’m not here to play around,” said McComb. I take this position very seriously and plan to do what’s best for the community and the council, myself included.”
Ward I includes the southern boundary of Blue Starr Drive, Southhaven Road as the western border and Claremore Lake as the eastern border.
