CLAREMORE — Rogers County United Way will kick off their 2013 campaign with the blues this September, in an outdoor concert at Ne-Mar Center entitled “Bikes & Blues.”

The free concert set for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 will feature the musical stylings of “Sunday Moan,” and the evening will include a magician and balloon artist for the children.

As the evening’s theme will be “Bikes & Blues,” motorcyclists and motorcycle groups are encouraged to attend and enjoy the live music.

The 26 agencies supported by the United Way will be on-hand for the evening to furnish information about the work they do in the county.

“Bikes & Blues” is only the beginning of the Rogers County United Way’s fundraisers.

Other plans for more events are already in the works, including a golf tournament scheduled for Sept. 20 at Heritage Hills Golf Course.

Called the “Skeet Smith” Memorial Golf Tournament, the golfing  competition is hosted annually as one of the first events in the campaign year. Information on this tournament is available at the Heritage Hills Golf Course or the United Way office at (918) 343-1165.

Additionally, the popular “Chocolate Affair”  will return in the fall on Oct. 10 and the Holiday Boutique will be Nov. 14, 15, and 16 in Rogers State University’s Centennial Center.

A newer event also has been added to the 2013 fundraiser campaign roster in the form of a local talent show, entitled “Claremore’s Got Talent.”

Performers of all ages can try out and compete for $2,500 in cash prizes. There will be no entry fee for participants to compete in one of the four categories: Music (singing or instrumental), dance, variety and youth under 14.

Contestants should make a video application entry, which must be submitted by Sept. 20.

From these entries, 40 semi-finalists will be selected.
