Unruly man arrested following assault on deputies

CLAREMORE — An unruly man who broke a windshield and assaulted Rogers County deputies is in custody.

Charles Edward Washington, 36, was arrested July 29 after deputies responded to a complaint of an intoxicated man in the 2100 block of East 430rd.
Washington was booked into the Rogers County Jail and charged with burglary in the second degree, malicious injury/destruction of property, prisoner placing body fluid on government, outraging public decency, public drunk, false personation and assault on police officer.
Deputies responded to a resident who reported Washington had banged on their camper door and busted inside, according to the report.
Upon arrival, deputies found Washington walking down the road and deputies observed that he was intoxicated.
The deputies interviewed the suspect and received a limited response from Washington.
The suspect did not directly answer the deputies questions and answered primarily with expletives.
Washington did however admit to having “too much” to drink. As deputies finished the interview the suspect resisted arrest, but was then taken into custody, according to the report.
En route to the Rogers County Jail near 4050 Rd., Washington started to curse and beat his head against the window, according to the report. He proceeded to kick the windshield of the deputy’s patrol vehicle.
The deputy notified the suspect if he did not stop the behavior he would have to be sprayed with pepper spray.
The deputy proceeded with the transport, then Washington began to kick the windshield again, breaking it.
The deputy stopped at a nearby store and an assisting officer arrived and the suspect was then placed in leg restraints.
Washington continued with his unruly behavior, spitting in the faces of both deputies. The suspect then continued to assault the officers as he attempted to head butt them, according to the report.
At this time the suspect was sprayed with pepper spray and the deputies were able to finish restraining him, according to the Sheriff’s report.
