City’s airport may get new management: Tulsa
An agreement is currently under discussion that would give over the management of the Claremore Regional Airport to the Tulsa Airport Authority.
The Claremore Industrial Economic Development Authority is working out the details of a proposal.
The proposal has been in the works for months, according to Claremore Mayor Mickey Perry.
If approved, the agreement would allow TAA to relieve traffic at feeder airports, including Jones Riverside Airport, he said.
The change could bring more exposure and more traffic to the airport, according to Perry.
TAA Deputy Director Jeff Hough reports the change may occur as soon as Sept. 1. Claremore officials have yet to confirm the date.
The project is an alternative to building a new airfield in Tulsa.
Tulsa International and Jones Riverside Airports have no room left for private or corporate hangars, even as more pilots request places to park their planes, Hough said Thursday.
The airport is owned by the City of Claremore and operated currently by CIEDA. Perry said the proposal will not include a change in ownership and the city would retain all assets.
“Nothing has been set at this time,” Perry said.
