Relay for Life will be kicking off another year in the fight against cancer at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Claremore Assembly of God, 2100 W. Blue Starr Drive in Claremore.
The event will serve as a fundraiser while providing information to teams in preparation for the main event on April 13 at Rogers State University.
Last year the event raised $63,000 with multiple teams participating.
“The goal is to make this an event that will raise more than $100,000,” said co-chairman Roger Evans.
RSU has partnered with the Relay for Life event of Rogers County for many years and raised thousands for the charity.
“Most people know someone from their family, a friend or coworker that is fighting cancer, survived or was lost to this disease,” Evans said.
The American Cancer Society sponsors Relay for Life and events held across the country in the fight against cancer. Cancer survivors, caregivers and their families honor those that have fought cancer and celebrate the victories against the disease.
Event organizers are looking to get the entire community involved as cancer continues to touch the lives of many of our friends and neighbors, Evans added.
