Mayor appoints Judges Harrell, Willhoite

CLAREMORE — The Claremore City Council approved Tuesday night the mayor’s appointments and voted on several items of general business.

Mayor Mickey Perry reappointed Judge Stanton Harrell and alternate Judge J. Todd Willhoite to continue serving as judges for the city.
Perry spoke briefly to explain that he discussed the appointments with other parties within city government prior to the selection.
“The positions are paid and both men have agreed to serve,” Perry said.
The council approved the decision with no additional discussion on the matter. All members were present for the meeting except Councilmen Bill Flanagan, Mark Lepak and Terry Willis.
In other business, the council approved sewer improvements to the Westwood Addition and Sawyers Lift Station, located off east Highway 20.
The lift station will be getting new equipment that will upgrade the existing system. There is an issue with the control panel due to age, Director of Public Infrastructure Jeremy Ledbetter said. The equipment is expected to cost approximately $30,000 and should minimize future pump failures. Ledbetter is also working to improve the sewer system for the residents of Westwood Addition.
Sewer improvements will fix the issue with back ups into customer homes, according to Ledbetter.
Materials for the project are expected to cost approximately $12,500. Overall, the project is expected to cost $150,000 as the old clay sewer lines are replaced with new materials.
Ledbetter also submitted and received approval to purchase a new street sweeper for approximately $189,575. The city’s current sweeper is in the shop frequently and spends more time being repaired then running, according to Ledbetter.
Once the new machine is purchased, citizens should expect to see it out and operational on a more regular basis, he added.
