While there is much joy in the world during the holidays, there are also many families that are far removed from the spirit of the season.
The annual Share the Spirit fundraising campaign is a chance for the entire community to come together to help our less fortunate neighbors at Christmas.
Share the Spirit needs to raise $24,000 to provide Christmas dinner baskets to hundreds of Rogers County individuals and families. So far, Share the Spirit has received $9,360 in donations from individuals, businesses, civic and church groups — and even children.
Eleven-year-old Brooke Jones first gave to Share the Spirit a couple of years ago when she sold eggs from her chickens.
This year, she asked her friend, Daley Reynolds, 10, to join her in giving.
“I thought it was fun and I thought we could do it together,” Brooke said. “We’ve just been saving up.”
With the Dec. 19 deadline almost here, every dollar counts and means more food can be purchased to make Christmas brighter for those who receive the baskets — as well as those who give. After all, that is the true spirit of the season.
Please consider how you can join Brooke and Daley and all the others who have given this year.
Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to Share the Spirit, P.O. Box 248, Claremore, OK 74018, or left at the Claremore Progress office.
Canned goods are also being collected.
Donors will be listed unless anonymity is requested.
