Secluded fire proves challenging for firemen

District 3 crews help contain the damage

Fire crews in Rogers County battled a fire located behind Fern Valley subdivision near 460 Rd. Friday evening.

The fire was reported at approximately 5 p.m. and burned multiple acres in the secluded woodland area.

Fire crews with Tri-District Fire Department first noticed the fire after assisting agencies in Mayes County with a nearby grass fire.

Multiple agencies were called in to assist with fire due to the difficult location.

County Commissioner Kirt Thacker was called to assist firefighters with brush removal.

“District 3 is ready to roll whenever the fire department needs us,” Thacker said.

Thacker had multiple crews of District 3 workers on the scene to cut a brush line for crews.

The crew used chain saws and a bulldozer to cut the pathway.

“We could not fight this fire effectively without the fire line,” according to Tiawah crews.

“District 3 has always been there to help us, when we need them,” said. Fire Chief Johnny Golbek.

Firefighters on the scene reported that a fuel trail was found and that arson was suspected.

The official cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Crews battled the blaze for approximately three hours before it was extinguished.

This fire is just one in a string of recently reported arson incidents in the area.

Officials are still looking for information that will lead to the arrest of the person responsible.

Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office.

“Everybody needs to be alert and look around at their surroundings if you see something suspicious contact the authorities,” Emergency Management Director Bob Anderson said.

Citizens may call the Sheriff’s Tipline at (918) 341-3620 if they wish to remain anonymous.
