The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released the name of a man shot and killed by a trooper in Tulsa and the name of the trooper.
The OHP said in a news release Monday that 28-year-old Trooper Bobby Raines shot 33-year-old Tel Levi Rogers of Claremore on Saturday.
Capt. George Brown says Raines was attempting to make a traffic stop in west Tulsa when Rogers jumped from his vehicle and ran through a nearby field. Brown says Raines chased and caught up with Rogers and Rogers reached for the trooper’s gun.
Brown says Raines then shot Rogers twice — hitting him in the chest and head. Rogers was dead at the scene.
Raines is on paid leave pending an internal investigation of the shooting.
