Police discovered a limousine and Mustang at the bottom of Claremore Lake Monday morning.
A local fisherman spotted the Mustang while using a side-scan sonar device from his boat on the northeast side of the lake.
“Chief (Stan Brown) has a similar sonar device that he used to locate the Mustang. He then went to another area on the east side of the lake where vehicles had been discovered earlier this year,” said Lt. Chief Investigator Chuck Goad. “There, he spotted the second vehicle, a late ‘80s model Lincoln limousine.”
Goad said the Tulsa Dive Team assisted in retrieving the vehicles from the water Monday.
The tags on the limousine dated back to 1993 and the vehicle was never reported stolen, he said. Investigators have obtained the owner of the vehicle, but have not been able to contact him.
The Mustang was reported stolen in July 2011. Investigation as to how both vehicles ended up in the lake is ongoing, said Sgt. Wayne Stinnett.
“We will be contacting the owner who reported the stolen vehicle and his insurance agency to figure out what they would like to do with it,” he said. “There are no suspects at this time.”
