Two hospitalized following three-vehicle wreck

Emergency crews responded to a three-vehicle wreck just after 5:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Lynn Riggs and West Will Rogers Boulevard.

The accident involved a red 1997 Pontiac Sunfire, a blue 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and a 2005 Volvo four-door, said Assistant Claremore Police Chief Charles Downum.

The red Sunfire was heading northbound on Lynn Riggs, turning westbound onto Will Rogers Boulevard when the driver failed to yield to the blue Sunfire, striking the vehicle on the passenger's side and knocking the car into the Volvo four-door.

Downum said an adult-male passenger and a 10-year-old child, both inside of the blue Sunfire suffered severe injuries and were transported to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

The passenger was pinned inside for about 20 minutes before crews were able to release him from the vehicle.

Airbags were deployed and the child was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Injuries to the drivers involved did not seem to be life-threatening, Downum said.
