Claremore students improve ACT scores

CLAREMORE —

Claremore High School students improved their composite scores  by nearly half a point on the ACT.
The Claremore Board of Education received a letter Monday from the  the ACT college readiness indicating  students had a composite score of 21.9, compared to last year’s score of 21.5.
“Credit for the increase in ACT scores goes to the high school teachers and faculty for their dedication and commitment in stressing academic work, and also other school levels who participated in ACT preparation through the organization,” said Claremore Superintendent Mike McClaren.
The report included five-year trends for each subject compared to state scores.
Composite scores for the state increased slightly from 20.7 for the past four years to 20.8 this year.
According to the report, 230 CHS students took the ACT this year. The report indicates the extent to which graduating students are prepared for college-level work.
The college readiness benchmark for designated college courses is an 18 on English test, 22 on mathematics, 22 on reading and 23 on science test. Seventy-seven percent of CHS students who took the ACT met or scored higher than benchmark scores for college English, 40 percent met or scored higher for college algebra, 51 percent for college social science, 41 percent for college biology and 25 percent met or scored higher than benchmark scores in all four subjects.
CHS students scored higher than the state composite scores in all subjects.
