Misconduct investigation underway for Verdigris Lower Elementary teacher

CLAREMORE — A Verdigris Lower Elementary teacher is currently being investigated for possible physical abuse of students. The teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave until police have concluded their investigation.

“Due to confidentiality reasons, administration cannot disclose any information at this time,” said Superintendent Mike Payne.

Payne said he believes it will be some time before details on the case are released.

One particular incident began the investigation about a week ago, said Jack Shackelford of the Verdigris Police Department.

He said investigators have conducted eight interviews so far, however, since it is a juvenile case, no names have been released.
