Claremore’s Reveille Rotary Club “Dancing with the Stars” contestants have been hitting the dance floor to get their moves down for the upcoming fundraiser. Luckily for David Clanin, he doesn’t have to go far.
As owner and instructor at Claremore Dance Studios, Clanin and his dance partner — City of Claremore Director of Communications Cassie Woods — have opportunity aplenty to rehearse their dance routine for the upcoming fundraiser.
“We’re going to be performing an East Coast Swing dance and our charity is Healthy Community Partnership (HCP),” Clanin said. “The kind of dance itself is a form of social partner dance, which belongs to the group of swing dances.
“It’s danced under fast swing music, including rock and roll and boogie-woogie, and we’ve been doing very well in rehearsals,” he said. “I think we could win this (contest), although I’d certainly invite other contestants to practice here at the dance studio.”
Health Community Partnership is a non-profit organization which focuses on preventing prescription drug abuse and misuse in Rogers County.
They work closely with the Drug Free Communities Project Director, Rogers County Sheriff’s office, local police departments in each community, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, nine Rogers County schools, Rogers County Pal-Mentoring program, graduated sanctions and juvenile court (county and city), Rogers County Youth Services and several others within the community.
For the Reveille Rotary Club “Dancing with the Stars” fundraiser, dancers will present a 90-second program of their choice. A panel of celebrity judges and audience participation will determine the winning dance team.
A trophy will be awarded to each member of the winning team declaring that he or she is “The Best Dancer In Rogers County for 2013.
Further, agencies will raise money by soliciting votes (or dollars) in support of their team at booths which will be located in the lobby of the PAC. All of the votes (money) in the ballot box at the end of voting will go to support the collecting agency.
The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, March 9 in the Robson Performing Arts Center.
In addition to the dancing, special entertainment will be provided by Merritt Armitage and the A Bar Bunkhouse Band, who will perform in concert during the voting intermission.
Admission tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Advance tickets are available from any member of the Reveille Rotary Club.
Claremore Dance Studios is located in downtown Claremore at 320 W. Will Rogers Boulevard.
