Marshals investigate attempted smoke shop burglary
Claremore Police Department received an emergency call around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday morning in regards to an attempted burglary at Ou Pon Ahlung Smoke Shop, 902 N. Dorothy.
A male wearing a camouflage mask, armed with a small dark handgun attempted to rob the shop, said Claremore Police Chief Stan Brown.
Reported party said the suspect fled the scene after an employee from the back spooked him. The man was described as having a thin build and was last seen wearing a dark blue hoodie.
Because Ou Pon Ahlung is a Cherokee Tribal jurisdiction, Cherokee Nation’s Deputy Marshall Jeff Anderson is on the case, said Brown.
“CPD assisted the Cherokee Nation with the initial response. We tried to establish a K-9 unit but with all of the foot traffic going in and out it was too late,” he said.
Brown said he is not sure why there was a five minute time lapse from when the crime took place to the time the emergency call was made.
Investigation is still ongoing.
No suspects have been identified at this time.
