Deputies arrested a 31-year-old Texas woman Tuesday night after she abducted her son from legal guardianship earlier in the day.
Rogers County Deputies responded to a dispatch call from a Sequoyah area residence at approximately 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, in reference to a fugitive from justice possibly being at the residence, said Captain Jerry Smittle.
The fugitive, identified as Stephanie Cotton of Woodcreek, Texas, abducted her 7-year-old son from a Texas home and brought him to the Rogers County residence.
Dispatch advised deputies that the child’s custodians, his maternal grandparents, along with Texas law enforcement agencies were searching for the boy.
The information was confirmed by a National Crime Information Center hit on the missing child, said Smittle.
The boy was left in the care and custody of the paternal grandparents until the legal guardians arrived from Texas to retrieve the child.
Cotton was booked into the Rogers County Jail early Wednesday morning with one count of fugitive from justice.
