Curtis captures conference POW award

CLAREMORE —  Rogers State freshman Linsey Curtis has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for March 8-14.

The Collinsville, Okla., product hit .409 with four home runs and 12 RBI while leading the Hillcats to a 5-1 record last week. Curtis has already rewritten the RSU record books just 24 games into her first collegiate season. She has amassed a record 15 home runs and is hitting .447 on the season with 50 RBI.

Curtis had a 1.000 slugging percentage last week with four dingers, a double and six runs scored. She needs just seven more RBI to break the school single-season record. Curtis shattered Jenny Johnson’s mark for homers with two long balls against No. 21 William Penn Friday afternoon in Springfield, Mo. She currently ranks second in the NAIA in home runs behind Lubbock Christian’s Kim Frazier with 20.

“Champions don’t talk, they just perform.”
The Claremore High School freshmen Zebras brought home the Metro Lakes title last Monday night at Bishop Kelley, thanks to the “Heisman-like” performance of all-purpose standout Dustin Basks.
Basks scored Claremore’s first 20 points on a pass play, a kickoff return and an interception return — all in the first half.
Looking like former Michigan Wolverine sensation Charles Woodson, Basks proved to be ‘unstoppable’ while leading the Zebras to a 33-13 victory over the previously unbeaten Comets.
