Rogers State women’s golf places 8th in opener

EDMOND — The Rogers State women’s golf team opened up the spring schedule with an eighth place finish at the East Central University/Oak Hills Women’s Collegiate Invitational Golf Tournament.

The Hillcats finished the rain-shortened tourney Tuesday in Ada, with a 371 team score.

The Hillcats overall score was 51 strokes behind tournament winner Northeastern State University. RSU finished three strokes ahead of fellow Sooner Athletic Conference member Oklahoma Baptist in a field comprised primarily of NCAA Division II teams.

OBU finished ninth in the 12-team tournament field amidst sunny, yet windy conditions during the 18-hole event.

Sophomore Emily Walker led the Hillcats, finishing tied for 26th with an 89 on the day. Freshman Dannah Whelan and Nikki Helton both shot 93 and tied for 38th place on the par 72, 5,858-yard course.
