People who grew up in the 70s may remember Slip ‘N Slide as a fun way to cool off during the hot summer months.
The Slip ‘N Slide will be making a comeback in a big way — a very big way — next month when the West Bend Green ‘s August Block Party event will include a giant Slip ‘N Slide along with a growing number of food trucks at the annual Claremore community event.
“To help kids and adults alike beat the heat, we’re inviting them to come play our the giant ‘back yard’ Slip ‘N Slide,” said Lisa Rogers, marketing manager, Visit Claremore. “We’ll also have sprinklers and games for the kids to enjoy, as well as food trucks, live entertainment, music, shopping and more.”
For the artistically inclined, this month’s West Bend on the Green Block Party will include a “Chalk Zone,” inviting attendees to get creative with their chalk art, much of which may be shared on Visit Claremore’s social media pages.
Food trucks scheduled to appear at the August event include Pie in the Sky, Kona Ice, Mikes BBQ, La Hermosa, and Dorothy’s Witches, with “several others” still in the process of being confirmed.
In addition to enjoying the fun, food, and entertainment, attendees may help area schools by donating food to their food pantries on site.
“We’re going to be taking donations for the school food pantries — donations may be brought to our event and left at the collection booth,” said Allison Burkhead, special events manager, Visit Claremore. “Each person that donates will be entered into a drawing for a prize. This is a great cause and we would love to see our community come out and support it.”
Suggested items for donation include: Vienna sausages, crackers, cheese and crackers (snack sandwich packs), individual bowls of mac and cheese, easy top open can of noodles or ravioli, granola bars, fruit cups, Jello cups, pudding cups, gummies and fruit roll ups, individual bags of chips, individual bags of cookies, snack packs of peanut butter and pretzels, and Ritz crackers.
“Anything that’s non-perishable, easy to open and ready to eat works,” Burkhead added.
“It’s going to be another great community event,” Rogers said. “We know it’s been hot lately, but we invite everyone to come cool off in Claremore at this fun monthly, family-friendly community get-together.”
August’s West Bend Block Party on the Green event is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8 on the Claremore Expo Center grounds at 400 Veterans Parkway.
