After several happy years of marriage and three wonderful girls Kit and Ryan Kelley are excited to start on the next life goal, successfully running their own small business. The flag above the counter belonged to Ryan’s grandfather, with whom she was close. He brought the flag back with him from the Korean War, and it sits as a reminder of his continued love and support.

Kit and Ryan Kelley had always dreamed of owning their own business. On June 18, they turned that dream into a reality.

The Barrel House, located at 222 N Lynn Riggs Blvd, sells liquor, beer and wine, including several brands made in Oklahoma.

“We try to highlight Made in Oklahoma stuff because it benefits Oklahoma as a whole,” Kit said. “People tend to know Oklahoma has wine and beer, but they don’t always know that we have our own whickey and vodka too.”

One vodka brand they sell is made in Claremore.

Kit and Ryan said that what sets them apart from other local liquor stores is a special “homey” feeling and a willing ness to help every customer find exactly what they’re looking for.

They also give away free limes with every purchase.

The couple got the idea to open a liquor store from Ryan’s grandparents, who owned a liquor store in Stillwater for nearly 30 years. They contemplated buying that store, but as life-long Claremore residents with three daughters in Claremore Schools, it didn’t make sense to uproot their lives.

Both Kit and Ryan still work their other jobs part time. Kit works for Century Link and Ryan for Smith Brothers Abstract.

Despite their busy schedules, they manage to keep the lights on and the doors open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Those hours are subject to change when the states new liquor laws go into effect in October.
