Valedictorian and Senior Class Vice President, Zach Monahan is Runner-Up his 2018 class of 282 seniors. He has a 4.43 GPA and scored 31 on the ACT.
Monahan is a member of the National Technical Honor Society, the CHS Academic and the SkillsUSA Quizbowl Teams and Mu Alpha Theta, a national mathematics honor society for high school and two-year college students.
Monahan plans to attend University of Oklahoma to study Biochemistry/Pre-Med.
"For the past few years, I've been wanting to get into the medical field somehow," Monahan says. "I just like the idea of helping people just for the physical and mental elements."
Monahan chose OU because he wanted to go to one of the bigger schools and didn't want to go out of state.
"OU I think has the better prestige, especially in Biochemistry," Monahan says.
During his four years at Claremore High, Monahan has earned academic awards, including the AP Scholar Award, with Honor.
Outside of school and academic competition, Monahan works as a cook at Mazzio's and recently did a pre-engineering presentation for Northeast Technology Center.
As far as a dream job, Monahan says, "I' like to get into the medical field, general surgery or a general practitioner. I've been toying with the idea of research, maybe CDC (Center for Disease Control), that would be a NASA level dream job for me."
Monahan and fellow valedictorian Bryce Goetz say they're very close friends. In fact, they plan to be roommates at OU.
