Country music artist and former “America’s Got Talent” contestant Milton Patton will be performing live in Rogers County this Friday.
Patton will perform in the Dog Iron Saloon at Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs in Claremore beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11.
Originally from Forrest City, Ark., Patton started singing after a bad relationship with an ex-girlfriend.
“I was driving to work one day when I heard ‘Whiskey Lullaby’ on the radio, and because the song related to the story of his break-up so closely, I was inspired to pursue country music,” he said. “Country music is about telling personal stories — stories that people can relate to and I like that.”
Patton so liked “Whisky Lullaby” that he used it as his audition song in 2013 for season 8 of “America’s Got Talent.”
After making it through initial auditions in Austin, Texas and New Orleans, La., he was given the opportunity to sing on national television before judges Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B (formerly of the Spice Girls) and Howie Mandel, who described Patton as a “diamond in the rough.”
Although was eventually elminated from “America’s Got Talent” as a contestant, has since gone on to work as an independent musician.
Patton now tours and performs regularly in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, with a band that includes a bass player who once performed with Waylon Jennings.
“My concerts are a mixture of cover songs of country classics and original compositions,” he said. “I’m looking forward to coming to Claremore -- I’ll hit the audience with back-to-back good songs and them them on their feet. You give an audience good songs with great feelings, and you leave them feeling good about themselves.”
