Don Purkey

Editor’s note: The following is a submitted campaign announcement.

Don Purkey was elected to represent Ward 2 on the Claremore City Council in May 2011.

I was born in Verdigris and grew up in Claremore. I graduated from Claremore High School and Oklahoma Military Academy. I am a 57-year member of Claremore Masonic Lodge #53 and a 32 degree mason. I’ve been married to my wife, Marjie for 55 years. We raised two children, Scott and Stacey, in Claremore. We have six grandchildren and two great-greandchildren.

We are members of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where we have actively served for 49 years. My working career was in aircraft and electrical manufacturing with a background in Engineering as Quality Assurance Manager. I was first elected to the City Council in 1970 and served 12 years under the old form of government and 16 years under the current council/manager form of government.

I continue to enjoy serving the citizens of Claremore and would like to serve another term. We have accomplished much in these past 8 years, with more to do. Because of our past leaders over the many years that set the frame work of our government and with our present employees and management, we will accomplish our goals We are thankful for some of the recent accomplishments with our new Senior Citizen/Fire Administration Building, our 90% complete Water Treatment Plant and much more.

It is very important to keep good qualified people on the council that have the background, history, and knowledge that can think outside the box. We have kept the city strong and advanced our city in all areas.
