Angie and Jordan Hinds met at Roller World of Claremore at age 13. Now, the married couple with three children own the business and hope to give Claremore’s citizens a safe place to have family fun.

Local couple on a roll after buying business where they first met

October marks a month of milestones for Roller World in Claremore.

The skating rink plays an important role in a local couple's love story — and in the community.

It was a cool October night when Angie and Jordan, now Hinds, met at Claremore's Roller World.

They were 13.

The two eventually skated their way into boyfriend/girlfriend status.

The couple got married at 19.

Together they now have three kids of their own — ages 6, 4 and 1.

But they haven't stopped skating.

"The skating rink has always been a part of us," Angie Hinds said. "So when the existing owners decided to sell it, they asked if we were interested in buying it — and obviously we said absolutely."

The Hinds bought the rink in October of last year and got right to work.

"We've painted. We've updated the snack bar area. We added a session through the week. We do $2 Tuesday. We do pretty much the same sessions as before, other than that," she said. "We open for a lot of daycares through the summer. We're trying to get most of the schools in for PTO fundraisers."

They offer private parties and have added a speed skating team.

"They're starting to go to events in October. We had a gold medalist and two silver medalists in regionals from here last year," she said.

Why skating?

This couple says skating is a fun way to get in some exercise.

"And Claremore doesn't have much to do for kiddos. So we wanted to keep it alive. We want a fun, safe environment for kiddos to hang out in," she said. "And we've always had a passion for skating. The exercise, the stress relief of listening to music and hanging out with your friends."

On Saturday, Oct. 7, they are doing a free skate, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

"We've got other things going on throughout the month — like a Lucky 13 Day on Friday the 13th and a Halloween costume party with cash prizes."
