It has long been a dream of Judy Odum to open a wedding chapel.

In September of last year, her vision was realized as the new Vesica Piscis Chapel in Catoosa hosted its first weddings.

“It’s really been a dream of mine for eight years now,” Odum said. “We began looking for land in 2001.”

But when Odum’s husband became ill and later passed away, “everything went on hold,” she said.

Since then she once again brought out her business plan, secured financing and started building.

A longtime resident of the Tulsa area, Odum currently resides in Owasso, but looked all over the perfect location for her wedding chapel.

“I picked this property for the view,” she said of the 19 and a half wooded acres on a ridge overlooking Catoosa.

Her plans called for an old world look, “something different than what was around here.”

The unqiueness of the chapel is encapsulated in its name —Vesica Piscis — which means “sacred geometry.”

“It means the coming together of two individuals with common ground, shared vision, mutual understanding, a sacred union,” Odum said.

Vesica Piscis is a full-service facility for wedding and celebrations.

“We offer stress-free weddings with full packages including a wedding coordinator, pianist for the ceremony, disc jockey for the reception, catering, cakes, banquet hostess and servers, set up and clean up,” Odum explained. “We use our own vendors who we know will do a good job. The only thing you need is a photographer, florist, invitations and attire; we provide everything else.”

The traditional chapel, featuring wooden beams and a picturesque backdrop of windows, accommodates up to 200 guests. The reception hall has room for 150 guests to be seated.

“The average wedding is 125 so this is a perfect fit — plenty of room,” she said.

Packages include wedding only, reception only, wedding with cake and punch reception, and wedding with reception with choice of hors d’oeuvres or buffet meal.

Alcohol is welcome but must be provided by the client. The bartender, glassware and all flatware and linens are part of the package.

To personalize the reception, the facility provides vases, mirrors and hurricane lamps to decorate the reception hall and candelabras and flower arrangements for the ceremony.

Comfortable dressing rooms for the bridal party include a closed circuit TV in the bride’s room and a regular TV in the groom’s, “so they don’t miss a game,” Odum laughed.

Coffee and bottled water is furnished for the bridal party while they get ready.

Odum says providing a service to take the hassle out of wedding planning is what today’s brides are looking for.

“Everyone’s so busy these days. Brides are working and have limited time,” Odum said. “We set up three different meetings with the bride so that we’re all on the same page and everything’s written down,” she said.

As one relieved bride told Odum: “I’ve gotten all the little details down and you’ve taken care of the bigger things.”
