A 60 year sentence, with 30 years suspended, was handed down to a Claremore man Monday for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

Michael Leon Rawlings, 63, pleaded no contest in June to one count of forcible sodomy and two counts of rape by instrumentation. His plea was part of a plea agreement reached with the state.

On Monday, Rogers County District Judge Dwayne Steidley sentenced Rawlings to 20 years in prison for each count, suspending 10 years on each. The sentences will run concurrently.

Steidley also ordered a judicial review to be held in July 2007, at which time Rawlings’ sentence may be modified, possibly releasing him from prison.

The charges came from accusations from the 13-year-old girl who claimed Rawlings assaulted her between the summers of 2003 and 2004, according to reports. She added that he had assaulted her several times during that time period.

Reports state that Rawlings even offered the girl $50 and $100 to have sex with him. Rawlings told officers during the investigation that the victim came on to him.
