(Editor’s Note: Names have been changed to protect the identity and privacy of the children, but they are real kids who can our help to make life more pleasant through the opportunity to attend summer camp.)

Beth struggles being a single mom raising three children all under the age of 12.

Because the family is new to Rogers County they were not familiar with the different programs available for young children. When Beth received information about Salvation Army’s summer camp through a school-based social worker, she gladly signed the paperwork.

“Keeping young children busy during the summer months can be very challenging,” said Gloria Conaway with the Department of Human Services. “What a great opportunity for mom to have some ‘alone’ time without the kids.”

While at Heart O’Hills Camp in Tahlequah, Beth’s children will enjoy a carefree week of summer fun with activities like swimming, boating, crafts and making new friends.

Claremore Progress readers are being asked to donate funds to send 40 Rogers County children — 20 boys and 20 girls — to camp June 26 through July 1.

With camp costs raised to $170 per child, the need for your help this year is even greater. A total of $6800 must be raised.

All the money will be used for campers. Funds are administered by the Share the Spirit Foundation.

The camp fee includes lodging, meals, insurance, and a canteen to buy snacks and craft materials.

Department of Human Services and Child Welfare coordinate camper eligibility, physicals and paper work. The Pilot Club of Claremore provides “ditty bags” with shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, washcloths, hair brushes and combs. Salvation Army — Claremore Unit provides clothing, bedding, shoes, etc.

All of the children are not on welfare. All do not come from families without a working parent. Send your tax-deductible donation to Share the Spirit, c/o Claremore Daily Progress, P.O. Box 248, Claremore, OK 74018, or drop by the Progress business office at 315 W. Will Rogers Blvd.

Names of donors will be listed unless anonymity is requested.
