Residents of Ward 1 interested in sitting on the City Council now have through 5 p.m. Monday, July 3, to apply.
During a special meeting Monday night, Council members voted 6-2 to extend the deadline.
Five candidates met the original July 22 deadline. Two were disqualified due to residency issues. The remaining three, the Rev. Rodger Cutler, Jeannie Titsworth and William (Billie) Quigg are still under consideration.
Council members Tony Mullenger and Terry Chase felt the full 30-day period for filling the position vacated by the resignation of Jim Palmer.
If the position is not filled by July 5, an election will be required.
