The Inola High School Alumni met May 14 and attendees were treated to a message from one of their alumni, Ben Sheerer, state representative. There were 115 present for this gathering.

Jean Spurlock Shoemaker was honored for her perfect attendance record – 58 years. Oma Gene Wilson had a perfect attendance record of 46 years and Jerry Wilson a record of 47 years. Orba McDaris was the oldest male graduate present and Blondie Mullen was the oldest female present. Both were from the class of 1942.

Philip Dunlap came the longest distance. He came from Denver, Colo. Each year funds are raised for scholarships for the current year Inola Senior Students. They must be present to win. This year Adrieane Mullen and Ashley Wells were the two winners. $649 was raised in donations for next year’s senior scholarship fund. Jeff DeGiacomo’s name was drawn for the Jerry Oquin Attendance Award. He was not present so did not win.

This is one of the qualifications for this award, that they must be present. Jerry Oquin, deceased, was very active in the Inola School System. The amount was $500 this year and each year is increased if not awarded. All graduates from Inola have their name put in the box for the drawing.

No officers were elected, but committee members to plan next year’s alumni banquet will be: Lucky and Shirley Bocock; Mike Bynum; Betty Mills; Glen Crane; Roberts Vaught and Yvonne Stout.
