Cole Nugent, a sixth-grader at Sequoyah Upper Elementary, recently competed at the Tournament of Champions Academic Meet in El Reno, Okla. He finished third place in the Sixth Grade Science Division. There were close to 70 participants in his division from schools throughout the entire state. Cole had qualified by finishing first place in the Sixth Grade Science Division at the Battle of the Brains academic meet in Inola on March 17.



Jon Townsend of Claremore as an All-American Scholar At-Large Award Winner by the United States Achievement Academy. Townsend will appear in the All-American Scholar Official Yearbook, published nationally. He is a student at Sequoyah Junior High School.

Jon Townsend is the son of Karen Nelson of Claremore and the grandson of Bud and Lois Harris of Claremore, and Sharon and Aron Townsend of Bartlesville.



Robert Clark of Claremore has been awarded a Freshman Research Scholar Award for 2006-07 at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. The award is made possible by the Robberson Trust through the OSU Foundation, and includes a scholarship stipend of $600.

Clark, a 2006 graduate of Claremore High School, is the son of Robert and Kathy Clark of Claremore. He plans to major in chemical engineering.

Trent Steidley of Foyil has also been awarded a Freshman Research Scholar Award for 2006-07 at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

During the fall semester, he will take an orientation to research class and learn about faculty research being conducted at OSU, and in the spring, he will work with a faculty mentor on a research project and participate in a seminar to learn research presentation skills. At the end of the year, he will have an opportunity to present his research at the Freshman Research Scholars Reception and compete for cash awards.

Steidley, a 2006 graduate of Foyil High School, is the son of Kenny and Marilyn Steidley of Foyil. He plans to major in political science.
